WTN: Pol Roger Brut Rose Champagne 2000

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:36 am

Extra Cuvée de Réserve

A 60-40 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with 15 per cent Coteaux Champenois Rouge added. According to the web site, this is Grand Cru Pinot Noir from the village of Chouilly, vinified as still wine and then added just before the second
fermentaiton.

Good frothy mousse.

Lovely copper-salmon pink in the glass.

Apple, light cherry-raspberry on the nose.

Medium weight, drying, crisp, light tannins, plummy, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, good acidiy, nutty, lightly honeyed, very rich and very refreshing.

Mouthwatering, cherry, very lightly tannic on the long finish.

This was a great wine which paired very well (thanks to suggestions from several WLDGers) with a New Year's Eve surf and turf dinner. Drinking champers with steak: whoda thunk it??!! :D

Purchased at $94.95 (Canadian).

thanks for notes, glad it worked. Haven't had 2000, but the '90 and '96 PR pinks were favorites.
