WTN: Nahe and Beaujolais w/vaguely Chinese meal

by Dale Williams » Thu Dec 30, 2010 10:58 pm

Tonight an early dinner, as Betsy's parents were going to opera with her sister. Dave and his girlfriend Mary Kate were also at dinner, and they provided the crucial shrimp wonton folding (while I did the dipping sauce). Fried wontons, poached chicken and scallion drizzled with oil and sesame oil, silken tofu with spinach, and rice. Plus a red and a white:

2008 JP Brun/Terres Dorees "L'Ancien" Beaujolais
Raspberries, cherries, a little plum. On finish some earth, but maybe a little clipped. Juicy and friendly, but I remember liking earlier bottles more. Fake cork. B

2007 Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinett
Great acids, integrated sweetness, citrus, Granny Smith, slate, smoke. Balanced, friendly, complex yet easygoing. With air shows more floral, all pear and peach blossom. Good length, very nice wine. A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Tasty. Wish I could have been there.
