A few from the Christmas holidays:
2003 Eddie Ferrand Chateneuf du Pape: refreshingly atypical for the vintage. Lighter bodied but not dilute, very peppery Grenache presence (don't know what's in it but wouldn't be surprised if it was 100%), bright, happy and relatively low alcohol at 14.1%. Very nice.
2006 Ridge 'Geyserville': proved once again that when it comes to zinfandel, it's in a league of its own. In a very good place right now for a pop n' pour--does Geyserville ever shut down?
2001 Greg Norman Shiraz-Cabernet Limestone Coast Australia: brought by a guest. Deep purple toward black, shows heavy extract and heavily toasted oak flavors on black currant and blackberry, sweet and rich but more cloying than brooding. For me, absolutely undrinkable.
2007 Margerum 'Sybarite' Sauvignon Blanc, California: The grapes are from somewhere between Santa Barbara and Lompoc, but I forget where. A deliciously fat, fruity style of SB that manages to stop short of going over the top. Continues to drink well but not quite as multi-faceted as it seemed two years ago.
