In a plain, flat-bottomed bottle, the low end Mendocino pinot noir from Navarro would not seem prepossessing, but it is a gorgeous glass of sour cherry juice going down! So balanced, fruity, with micro-tannins on the medium finish. Developing some sous bois, it has plenty of life left, and the aroma improves with air. A fine match with food or by itself. Very Good+.
With wines like this, I imagine that Mendocino could become like the Willamette, a steady source of characterful, cool-climate pinot noir.
