WTN: Maggie by Johannes

2003 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Riesling Spätlese
Johannes likes to call the wines from the Magdalenenkreuz "Maggie." Casual Sunday sipping with the footbal games on* - this is not showing much in the way of development, but it has also never shut down. Tropical fruit, mineral water and a surprisingly zingy finish make this a very complete and balanced package. Great QPR too, as it was about $13 back in 2004 (not much more now for current vintages).

*Also lovely with our Sunday supper of "baked potato" soup, especially when I sprinkled a little smoked salt on the top.

So, does she age or not?

Perhaps hold versus age. Of course not every wine needs to be a cellar candidate, or we would have nothing to drink.

No idea, because this wine has been so delicious and drinkable in every year that it's really hard to keep a few bottles aside for aging. Then again the same could be said for most of Leitz's other wines.

I am not alone, then. Sometimes I'm tempted to fill my gym bottle with them.
