WTN: Two Vintages

One
2007 Texier Brézème Pergault VV
Suave stoney floral velvet. Very easy to like, in all the right ways.

2007 FX Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd “M”
Intense and focused, but with a light crystal cut. And what a luxurious acid structure. It feels so good, and not just because of the alcohol!

2007 G. Descombes Morgon
One bottle was great. Energetic, lithe, and lively but with enough depth and focus to prevent the tongue from getting lonely. The second bottle started off darker and silkier, altogether promising, but it quickly became more sour around the edges and without as much dimensionality as the first bottle. Will I experiment further?

Two
2009 Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais
Needs a bunch of air to get going but then the tart-yet-darkish crunchy sucking-candy fruit provides a mouthful of pleasure.

2009 JP Brun Côte de Brouilly
Silky and tart. The order depends on the sip. Either way, you’re having fun.

2009 Foillard Morgon Côte du Py
Gorgeous. What I have been waiting for and it did not disappoint. All the flavors and aromas you would expect, and was surprisingly light and accessible at first (went swimmingly in the mouth with a mushroom, oregano and taleggio pizza). But with air it got thicker and deeper and filled in some tannins around the edges. Can’t wait to drink more.

2009 Huet Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Sec
Citrus-tinged minerals with a crystalline yet generous structure. Intense and good.

That Huet sounds damn good. Actually, they all do, but the Huet just makes me wish I had some in the basement. Agree fully on the Foillard CdP, I've gone through two bottles already and that's just freaking delicious.

Your note on the FX M sums up what I thought of most of his wines that vintage (didn't have the M though) - amazing collection, just a shame about the pricing. I love the wines but I've not bought any FX Pichler since the '07 vintage with the number of equally enjoyable but better priced alternatives in Germany and Austria.

Yeah, I bought it at a ridiculous Weygandt sale (something like 40-60% off, I forget the exact number). Probably should have bought a couple of bottles because I am very unlikely to pay full retail $80+ for this M (that's still almost exclusively red Burgundy territory for my spending habits). Although for the roughly $40 I paid for the M, it was very very good.

I tried the 2008 Foillard Morgon Côte du Py just last week and really enjoyed it, despite know that it was not a great vintage. I got the same lightness that you were talking about and look forward to putting my hands on the '09 of this.

May not be a "great" vintage, but the 08s I've drunk/tasted have generally been really enjoyable, refreshing and very nicely balanced - just a little lighter than the 09s.

(And some of the 08 closeouts I'm seeing right now - like Burgaud Morgon CdP at $13 - are truly remarkable deals that I'm buying more of than any '09 Beaujolais.)

Nice lineup!
I'm also in the " I love FX, but the pricing deters me except closeout" crowd
