WTN: N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Brut "Les Vignes de Vrigny"

100% Pinot Meunier. A much better showing than a bottle I had a few weeks ago (same August 09 disgorgement) with rich red fruited, gingerbread and yeasty flavours, plenty of depth, complexity and great balance. There's tremendous clarity and brightness to the flavours, really nice acidity and impressive length. Lovely stuff.

I haven't had this wine in years but I used to like it. Gutsy, rambunctious, but still 'champagne class', whatever that is...

What are the other Meunier-dominated ones to look for?

Well Moet used to do a single vineyard Meunier wine. Gaston-Chiquet Carte Vert is almost 45% Meunier. There's more, but I don't have them off the top of my head right now.

I'm hardly a champagne expert but Franck Pascal had some delicious cuvees that were high (90%) in meunier. I've only had them in Paris, not sure how widely available they are in the US.
