The purchase of wine futures from Wine Cask

by GeoCWeyer » Wed Dec 01, 2010 3:33 pm

I purchased wine futures from the "Wine Cask" in Santa Barbara for a number of years when it was owned by the original owner. It gave me the opportunity to get some of the wines from some of the Santa Barbara area wineries. This was pre Sideways. The original owner sold the business to the owner of Bernards Wine Gallery. I was told by the representatives of the new owner that the futures contracts would be carried out. My last order was placed in Spring of 2007 with an anticipated scheduled delivery of some in 2008. I have yet to receive my last six bottles. After the first couple of "delays" I told them I would be happy just to have my money refunded. I was reassured that the wine was coming. IT AIN"T HERE YET!!!

Maybe I should consider myself lucky to only have lost 6 bottles! I lost 2 cases when Carolina Wine Company closed it's doors. Considering the amount of wine I have purchased over the years on futures I guess losing 2 1/2 cases total isn't too bad!

Considering that Wine Cask closed not long after it was bought & was then re-opened by yet another set of owners, I doubt there's any hope.

Too bad.

I've only been burned once on futures, and it was only 3 bottles, but it still hurts.

The "new" owners are also some of the "old" original owners.
