2009 Daniel Vollenweider 'Wolfer Goldgrube' Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel (AP#0610)

Incredibly complex nose of white blossoms, grapefruit, wet rock, tangerine, orange and super-ripe pear. Thick on the palate but light on its feet and incredibly long on the clean, salty, fresh finish. Only old, non-grafted vines from a magnificient terroir can provide this level of quality given a perfect vintage and a great producer. Awesome! I feel overwhelmed by this  . Did I ever taste something better from Germany? - Yes, the very best Egon Müller wines can compete against this, but that's about it. I cannot remember any J.J.Prüm or Grünhaus or Robert Weil that would outperform this. - Thank you, Daniel! My personel rating: 19/20.

Cheers,
Rainer

Thanks for the tip Rainier,

That's high praise for the money. I see that I can pick some up in Mannheim for 27€/375ml. I might have to stop there on the way back from Heidelberg tomorrow.

Cheers,
Bill

I love Heidelberg. I lived there for about three years in the early 80's.

Hi Bill,
you're right: go for it!
Given the fact that this wine benefits a lot from airing I would recommend to taste it several times over 2-3 (or more) days.
My dear friend David is also excited about it > viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34879
Cheers,
Rainer

Michael, if you have a case, save one for an offline providing you are ever in the States long enough to join some other East Coasters.

Of course!!! Anything for you JC

Off all his vintages I have only never tasted the 2000, his first.....and Daniel himself has promised to rectify that situation personally :) Talk about a great guy!

Hi Rainer -

Thank you for the exciting note - sounds really impressive! And I was not looking to buy any more young Auslesen for a while...
