WTN: 2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py

by Salil » Sun Nov 21, 2010 11:32 pm

Freaking amazing. The aromatics may be worth the price of admission alone, combining all sorts of red fruits ranging from bright cherries to tarter pomegranates, floral, stony and other savoury elements into one incredible scent that's hard to move away from. There's incredible depth and complexity in the mouth with fruit, flowers and stone in equal proportion, really bright acidity keeping it very fresh and precise, and tremendous length. Wow!!

Sounds great. This is the one I've been waiting for the most.

Pomegranate is a key Foillard descriptor for me as well.

Hmm, I don't care for pomegranates.

Really? Too tart?

I love them, one of the only redeeming things fruit-wise about Nov-Dec.

Salil -

Who has this in stock?

How do you compare it to other 09s and if you have had them 07 and 08 Foillard CdP.

Sorry to be cheeky, but do you really need to ask that question?

Had another bottle tonight that was consistent with the previous one, and it's definitely among my favourite 09s (up there with the Lapierre Morgon and Vissoux Fleurie Poncie - though I have not yet opened the other Vissoux crus). I didn't have the 07 or 08 Foillard - only other one I've had is the 05, and I preferred this - found it more complex and layered, and a wine I am really glad to have more of.

(BTW, you've got an email.)

I really loved the 07 Foillard and to me it had a good amount of brett/funk so I was curious if the 09 is as clean as almost all of the other 09s I have had. I obviously know the vintage differences. I am also one of the few that think 09 might be a bit too ripe for my tastes. I do think they will age well and have purchased a bunch.
