WTN: Ravens and Rhones

We enjoyed these two bottles last night much better than we did watching the Ravens lose to the Falcons :(

2007 Alain Jaume "Les Valats" Rasteau
Cotes du Rhone Villages
A dark, lush grenache (90%) syrah (10%) blend showing elegant black fruit with pronounced dark chocolate notes and
hints of mineral and loam. Nicely balanced and very drinkable now finishing long with few fine tannins. Nice. 14.5% Alc/vol.

2007 Domaine Cabirau "Serge and Tony"
Vin de Pays des Cotes Catalanes
This is a very good QPR grenache with Stelvin closure. Bright, spicy raspberry, ripe strawberry and red fruits laced
with mineral and a little bacon fat. Very round in the mouth with an oily texture. Persistant finish and a very solid "go to" wine. 14.5% Alc/vol. $13. This was a very good match with a smoked chichen, mushroom and pasta dish we threw together.

I have both of these wines in the cellar. At first I thought the '07 Cabirau was a little over-the-top but with a year of cellaring it has really settled down. Great drinks for little $
