WTN: Coffaro Block 4 '07

A fruit-forward vintage, even for David Coffaro.
I just love Block 4! It's Zinnish, but much enriched. Whoever planted those vines Way Back When knew what he was doing.
Block 4 is one of David's "old vines" blocks, 4 rows planted mostly probably sometime before 1920. It's a field blend - just picked from the block. I know the percentages listed on the bottle have changed over the years. I suspect that's partly because of yield differences between the vines and partly because David's understanding of what each vine really is has changed.
The alcohol is totally unnoticeable to me, until I stand up.
765 cases 15.6% alcohol 50% Zin, 25% Petite Sirah, 9% Carignan, 8% Peloursin, 8% Syrah
I had it tonight with a sausage, potato fried with onion and garlic, and carrots. Could have been a beer dinner, but the wine was fine!
I paid $17 because I bought it over the counter one day when I was at the winery - I happened to like it way too much at the end of September '08. For some reason (probably terminal stupidity) I didn't order any as futures.

Few nights ago, I opened the '07 Zin and was struck how much more fruit forward it was. It was a complex wine and thoroughly enjoyable.

I agree, '06 & '08 aren't nearly as fruity right now.
I was talking to David Cooper of Yoakim Bridge last Friday, and he was musing that even years are hard but make lasting wines, odd years are easy but make drink-up wines.
'10 is certainly going to be a hard year in Sonoma County.
