I suppose one could surmise that you equally loathe the term “fruit bomb”? :)

This brings to mind one of my favorite Peter Sellers quotes as Inspector Clouseau from “The Pink Panther Strikes Again”:

Francois: “Do you know what kind of a bomb it was?”
Clouseau: “The exploding kind.”

I take exception to the inclusion of "serious". I think there are serious wines and not-so-serious wines, usually made with serious or not-so-serious intentions.

One of my least favorite terms not included in the list:
Hedonistic - (Meaning = very pleasureful) If you like a wine then it's hedonistic. That doesn't tell me anything about the wine except that you liked it. Unless you are using the term incorrectly.

Fortunately, I have never seen anyone misuse 'cacaphony' in that way. Anyone that would, has caca for brains.

I think of hedonistic wines as ones that are overflowing with pleasure and easy to like. For some people that may be an overoaked fruitbomb, for others (me) that may be Clos des Briords. But both can be distinguished from wines that we like but are more difficult and go through several complex stages, are too young and still dominated by tannin, are too old but still offer glimpses of what they once were, etc.

Agreed--it's especially useful when discussing wines priced in the budget range that also brackets the lakes of mass market product available under $20. It gets my attention, and I use it.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I never got to the article--I gave up midway through all the annoying scripts that were being downloaded to get there.
