WTN: Enkidu Humbaba RhoneBlend '07...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:56 am

Tried this last night w/ hanger steak:
1. Enkidu Humbaba (70% Sonoma/25% Lake/5% Napa counties; 70% Syrah/30% PS; 14.6%; www.EnkiduWine.com) 2007: Very dark/black color; slight reduced/sewer gas/pungent/ozone strong black cherry/boysenberry slight peppery/spicy some charred/toasty/Fr.oak somewhat clunky/oafish mostly PS nose; soft rather hard/tannic slight milk of magnesia/chalky somewhat black cherry/boysenberry/peppery rather clunky/rustic mostly PS flavor; med.long quite hard/tannic/rough some spicy/black cherry/boysenberry/RCCola milk of magnesia/chalky rather charred/oak finish; speaks mostly of PS and quietly of Syrah; quite hard/agressive tannins; needs age but not sure of its future; fairly priced at $19.80

Oafish, rather clunky, rustic. Seems to be showing more of Humbaba's nature than Enkidu's at the moment - unless this describes Enkidu before he was civilized by Gilgamesh!

I love Enkidu! Especially the chewy non-filtered parts! The winemaker is a total nut.

I'm going to guess that the winemaker is a big fan of the San Francisco Giants.

Or at least of the Roger Craig-coached Gints. Good one, Mike!

Big show in town today. The Enkidu Petite Sirah was the best red of the entire tasting.
