2008 Gobelsburger Riesling Kabinett, Kamptal, Austria

My first night in California I dined at the Slanted Door restaurant in the Ferry Building, Embarcadero, looking over San Francisco Bay. I had a spring roll sashimi dish, cellophane noodles with Dungeness crab, and baby spinach with caramelized shallots (although I couldn't find the shallots--must have been very thinly shaved if present.) The wine list matches Asian cuisine and I ordered this Austrian Riesling. It was delicate, fresh, and exhibited a floral/lemon scent; leggy on the glass. The peanut sauce which went with the spring rolls gave a peppery burn to the wine which was not present when sipping the wine on its own. The party at the table next to mine included Marcel Reece, #45, fullback for the Oakland Raiders who was kind enough to sign his autograph for my youngest nephew, a Raiders' fan. (I heard that Marcel scored a touchdown in the Raiders' game the next weekend against Denver.)
