WTN: Autumn magic

by Keith M » Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:16 pm

*2007 Edmunds St. John That Old Black Magic [71 percent syrah and 29 percent grenache from the Wylie-Fenaughty vineyard] (El Dorado County, Sierra Foothills, California, western USA) cork closure, 14.3% - appears beautiful purple, smell crisp fall day, leaves on the ground, fresh and changing, what – a – mouthfeel!, taste pure delicate fruit, slightly rich, clean, clean, clean, slightly crunchy finish, just plain fun in a bottle, particularly delicious paired with (and included within as part of a shallot-garlic-wine reduction) white bean stew with celery root, leeks, carrots and fresh herbs. A salute to the beginning of autumn!

*Full disclosure: A wine sold at the shop where I work part-time.

This wine smells like fall? I'm not sure I get that. But mainly because it seems so right for all four seasons!
