WTN: Hecula Monastrell 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:27 am

Bodegas Castano
Yecla

Dark purple in the glass.

Spicy, floral on the nose.

Thick in the mouth, fleshy, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, very spicy, quite rich, peppery, good acidity, floral, quite drying toard the end, revealing a rather firm backbone with some time.

Drying, tarry, coffee, blueberry on the long finish.

Would benefit from short-term aging.

I know that this wine has a bad reputation for severe bottle variation but I have been lucky, I guess, and have never had any trouble with the many times I have purchased this.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

Hi Bruce,

I have purchased this wine in the past and enjoyed it. I think it is usually a pretty good QPR. Thanks for the tasting note.
