WTN: Mixed bag

2007 Edmunds St. John That Old Black Magic
Nothing new to add to my previous thoughts on this; just fantastic, elegant, perfectly balanced wine that's a ridiculously good value at $20ish.

2005 Huët Vouvray Pétillant Brut
Bright yellow Chenin fruit and light floral and mineral notes on a medium weight frame lifted by gentle effervescence. It's very understated and calm, but with plenty of presence and all too easy to drink.

2009 Michel Tête Juliénas Domaine du Clos du Fief
Oh my! Gorgeous stuff, rose petal and herbal aromas around a core of deep red berries and cherries, luscious and rich with a silky texture, yet incredibly light on its feet and very precise with bright acids and impressive length.

2008 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese
Delicious stuff; classic Mosel fruit and fresh herbal notes over a bed of slate and stone. There's plenty of richness and depth with fantastic acidity underneath that keeps it very vibrant and precise. Perhaps a little light on the back end this time (compared to other bottles I've had), but still disappears quickly.

2009 A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberger Riesling Spätlese
Auslese alert. This is *really* ripe. Starts out with the wild aromatics I always expect from Adam's Hofberg; exotic floral notes, ginger and red and white fruited flavours, but on the palate it's very rich with bright fruit veering towards the tropical, and some brown spices/apricot notes on the back end hinting at botrytis. That said the balance is fantastic and it's a wine I'd certainly like to have more of - though for sheer drinkability and lightness (and utility as actual Spätlese), I may still look for more of the '08.

1995 Château Camensac Haut-Médoc
Really nice, classic claret drinking really well right now with a great combination of restrained red fruited flavours and developed earthy, leathery and graphite notes. Tannins mostly resolved, giving this a nice finessed texture.

Cool...by mixed bag I thought you meant a mix of good and bad...you lucked out across the board!

Hi Salil -

Thank you for the notes. That ESJ Old Black Magic is a nice wine, and I have liked Huet's Petillant in past vintages. Both of the German wines sound very nice.
