2001 Deux Verres, Torii Mor, Red Hills of Dundee, Oregon
Came back from the forest with the baskets full of mushrooms and found some elk tenderloin in the local store on the way home, so I needed something with a certain potential to match this. In the cellar, my eyes just happened to fall on my single bottle of this wine, bought during a nice visit to the producer in 2003.
C: Medium deep and still rather red colour. Not much bricking yet.
N: Lovely open and charming Pinot-nose with loads of smoking wood fire, undergrowth and an initial hint of the shitty gaminess that is so charming in mature Pinot noir. A somewhat earthy background of old wood that might be time in small barrels shining through.
P: In the mouth it is round and mature with a refreshing acidity. Lovely and charming. What little tannins are left are soft and rounded. The end is slightly earthy and has a decent length with a touch of greenness to it. A very nice wine. Definitely charming but lacking backbone due to the overly soft tannins. A little more firmness from the tannins would have given it better structure and mouthfeel. Still, very nice and definitely nothing to wait any longer for. It also brought back nice memories from my Oregon trip in 2003. A fine match to the soft and very tender elk meat and the creamy mushroom sauce.
Picture of the label to come later.
Cheers,
Anders
