Not only going well with food - this IS food

Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1993
Lively pruney-plummy ruby-red, excellent glossiness - obviously a well stored bottle. Very complex nose of dried herbs, tomatoes and rose hip tea, nice minerality. Highly concentrated, airing doesn't seem to impress/change this wine. Its old fashioned style makes me think of great experiences with some 1990 Giacosa wines (Piedmont). Medium-dry tannin, fresh lemon taste therein, quite long. I wish my dear friend David would be able to taste this now. My personel rating: 18/20.

Cheers,
Rainer

Sounds like quite a wine, when you can compare a 93 to 90's from Giacosa. Impressive.

Indeed, this wine is notably outperforming the quality potential of its vintage in Tuscany. However I think Soldera doesn't outperform on a consistent basis, e.g. in 1999 he did well - as many others did.

Thanks! Love this wine as you know, even if other friends of ours have had some misfortune with misstored bottles. Do you think remaining bottles should be drunk up even from pristine storage?

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

David, I think your assumption is correct. I can't see how this wine could benefit from further storage. Hence drink it up what you have .. Of course only together with other certified Soldera surveyors

Cheers,
Rainer
