SFChron: Haeger On Vermentino

Interesting article ysterday by JohnathanWinthropHaeger on the resurrgence of Vermentino/Rolle/Pigato around the world:
SFChron:Vermentino

First Merlot, then Syrah, then Grenache...now Vermentino...next wave of the future.

I've had Vermentino from Lodi and it's amazingly good for such a warm area. The TablasCreek is a particular favorite of mine.

Thanks for the link. I'm very up on Vermentino myself. My brother in law carries a nice one at his place, La Cala Vermentino di Sardegna, that I find quite nice. Next time I'm there I'll take some actual notes.

I've had maybe a dozen of Vermentinos from Sardegna. I've liked nearly all of them for their rustic sort of character, yet plenty of aromatics you wouldn't
expect in a Sardinian white.

Tom -

Thanks for posting the article. I just bought a bottle of Mahoney Vineyards Vermentino from Carneros to try out, but haven't opened it yet. Many of the Italian Vermentinos (Sardinia, Tuscany, Favorita from Piedmont, but no Ligurian Pigato yet) that I have had have been very nice, though, as have a couple of the Provencal/Corsican whites I've tried.
