1993 Mayacamas Sauvignon Blanc

1993 Mayacamas Sauvignon Blanc
Napa Valley
12.5% abv
Produced & Bottled By Mayacamas Vineyards

Not tasted blind.

Light gold color
Oily nose of stone fruit & pit
Palate a blend of citrus (lemon & lime) with stone fruit (mostly white peach) and a viscosity that was not expected. A hint of apple comes with airing but that hint comes and goes. Some strong minerality here as well. Perhaps a fleeting touch of petrol/kerosene? Intriguing. There is more than a passing similarity to older Rheingau Riesling though one would never mistake this for anything other than SB. If tasted blind, Loire and Sancerre specifically would be first (and very a good) guess. No oxidative characteristics. Acidity is strong. No tartrates.

Storage
This wine was kept very cool to cold for most of its life which I believe slows the aging process. In this instance the aging was more by happenstance than design; I am a happy camper because of it.
