WTN: Great Cheap Rosso!

by Brian K Miller » Tue Sep 28, 2010 6:15 pm

2006 Il Poggiolo "Sassello" Rosso di Montalcino

This was a delicious Italian red. Plenty of tangy, sweet, juicy cherry/red plum Sangiovese character with a medium mouthfeel and enough acidity to be refreshing. A sample from another open bottle at the wine shop also showed plenty of the earthy, tobaccoey leatheryness that I love in Italian reds...so give it some air!

Vintages Berkeley now has this for $14. It may be a back up the truck wine!

I've been on the lookout for some Rosso di Montalcino and the Sangioves with the "earthy, tobaccoey leathery..." notes are what's getting me enthused about these good value wines from Tuscany. Thanks for the TN.
