Today in Provence

by Jenise » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:52 pm

Tasted at Domaine Mordoree today. Fabrice poured for us and we discussed the weather. He said the "diluvian" rains of several weeks ago was nothing. The stones were so dry they absorbed most of what fell and present no concern about the vintage. They have been harvesting for two weeks and will finish in another week or week plus.

Tonight: Four vintage vertical of Domaine Pradeaux, Bandol.

Gotta get back to my stove....

Yes, we have a house. No on cooking classes. 600 years old, four floors, built out of the ruins of what had been three residences. No, didn't eat with Lulu, but the little old lady I saw there is her daughter! Lulu's 94 now and swims in the ocean every day, I was told.

To my mind, Domaine de la Mordorée has the golden touch.
I tasted through a range of their wines Châteuneuf-du-Pape in April and I was impressed with the whole line, finding the Lirac especially tremendous value for money.
I brought back a mixed carton with me. Their Tavel is first-rate too.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Alex, I can only second your impressions. During our only visit at the Domaine de la Mordorée, together with Fabrice Delorme, we could taste the whole program - whites, rosés, reds - and I was really amazed. I have still some bottles in my cellar but I do not know what then - in our country there is no availability for the wines from this producer :( In any case, they are worth to be visited again...

Ditto--we tasted the entire line. The Tavel was right up there with the roses from Tempier and Pradeaux that we so loved last week. I'm bringing some of his CdP home.

Hey, Jenise, if you get a chance, try Eric Pfifferling's wines from Domaine L'Anglore, near Tavel. Very cultish but also well respected and supposedly impressive (I tried one 06 CdR Comeyre and liked a lot).
