Tried this last night w/ my Scallion Risotto:
1. Foxen Viognier RothbergVnyd/SantaYnezVlly (15.5%) 1998: Med.gold color; slightly musty (thought TCA at first) nose that cleared to toasted hazelnuts/oxidized/nutty/waxy slight toasty/oak some earthy/peachy/complex bit alcoholic little fruit nose; soft/fat some oxidized/nutty/toasted hazelnuts earthy some toasty/oak slight sherried complex flavor; long rich/lush/peachy toasted hazelnuts/nutty/waxy/oxidized some earthy finish; getting rather long of tooth but not totally shot; somewhat oxidized/old RhoneBlanc in character. $25.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This was one of the first Viogniers that the Foxen boys made. In its youth, it reminded me a lot of what Jaffurs makes these days; rich/ripe/lush very intense Viognier fruit w/ a noticible oak component. The wine had that nutty/old Rhone/oxidized character that they take on and, unless you are adverse to oxidation in your wine, was not at all unpleasant to my palate. But if you're absolutely needing that fragrant/floral character in your Viognier, this wine is not for you.
