Report from France 5 - St. Cosme, Bouissiere, Raspail

Sept. 21

Dom. De la Bouissiere (Gigondas)

2008 Vacqueyras Rouge medium colour, delicious raspberry nose, and very tasty.

2008 Gigondas – surprisingly, we seem to be finding that Gigondas presents less well than that vintage of Vacqueyras. This was closed and uninteresting at the moment.

2007 Gigondas Le Font de Tonin – nicely balanced wine without any of the fruity over exuberance and alcohol so common in this vintage. Fragrant and drinkable now.

Ch. Du St. Cosme – properties in both North and South

2006 St. Joseph – lovely nose ands colour, strawberry and fine tannins , long finish. Good

2008 Cote Rotie – more floral nose, juicy full mouth feel elegant lengthy finish

2008 Gigondas – warm Grenache nose tannin still a bit hard, long finish, needs time

Dom. Raspail (Gabriel Meffre)

2007 Gigondas – a particularly enticing bouquet of strawberry and flowers, the wine now smooth and soft a perfectly delightful easy drinking wine right now with stuffing to go a few years.

2007 CNduP Saint Jean – another soft forward wine with a great nose with smoky red fruit. Delicious.

We seem to be coming to the conclusion that the 2008 Vacqueyras are great drinking now, better than the 2009, and that the 08 Gigondas is a bit disappointing in comparison.

Today, off to Chateauneuf.

Your notes continue to intrigue me Bill.

Is that all you tasted at St. Cosme? Were they sold out of many items? I know they make a much larger range than that.

I also tasted a 2008 and 2009 white CduR, both of which which had an odd banana nose and which I deeemd noit worth anotating. There were several that we would have tasted, had they been open in the tasting room.
