Wines from Helen's Birthday

Connetable de Talbot 2002 – Very dry, smooth, dried fruit. Ready to drink but nothing special.

Connetable de Talbot 2003 – Sweet fruit nose. Almost New Worldy. Smooth. Much more fruit than the 02. Nice.

Chateau Talbot 2003 – Oaky nose. Dark, spicy, full-bodied. Cofee notes. Can be drunk now but has plenty of room for improvement. Very good.

Concha y Toro Don Melchor 2001 – Oaky, asphalt, leathery. Has a burnt, ashy character. Shows a lot of fruit in the front palate but dries out a bit on the very long finish. Not quite integrated yet. Needs maybe another 3 years to come together.

Charmilles de La Tour Blanche 2001 – Sweet, burnt sugar. Not a great deal of botrytis but still a good mid-weight Sauternes.

Interesting report on the Don Melchor. I don't believe I've ever encountered one tasting of all those things. It sure doesn't sound attractive right now--thanks for the sacrifice.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
