WTN: Flat Rock Chardonnay 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Sep 18, 2010 5:47 pm

Flat Rock Cellars
VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula

Rich golden-yellow in the glass.

Sulphur (which blew off), spicy, lemon on the nose.

Pear, lemon, spicy, peppery, good tangy acidity, refreshing, medium weight, citrus rind, nicely balanced oak, round in the mouth, quite rich.

The wine surprised me a bit by being so lemon-driven, tangy and moutwatering, but was also very rich and delicious.

Mouthwatering, lemon, toasty on the finish.

I can't recall ever being disappointed by a Flat Rock chardonnay, and I have purchased many over the years.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian).

I've been there, I love that winery. I wish we could sell it

Just curious, but why can't you sell it?

Yes, they are usually a pretty steady winery, with nice, well priced quaffers. Such a great view from the winery too!

Great winery indeed. Their Icewine is always a bargain in terms of quality. I got some for $29.95/37.5cl

I remember visiting their winery and had a very educational tasting where they serve you 4 different samples of Pinot Noir. Three of different clones and the forth is the final product of the blend of the three clones to be sold on the racks. You tasted the difference in characteristics between the clones and understand the need to blend them.

A very nice winery with great view and ' gravity' designed with no pumping over of the wine.
