And the usual trash talk from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. TrosseauGris: This variety is what used to be known in Calif as GreyRiesling. Mostly it made pretty
ordinary wines at the hands of large-production winemakers. It was interesting to taste what the
grape can give in the hands of a competent winemaker. Don't think the variety is going to set any
fires, though. I assume these are rather old vines in that vnyd.

2. Booker: These are the wines made by EricJensen. Followed him from the very start, when MaryBaker poured his
wines at the BlackOak BarBQue one year. Deinitely made in a big/ripe Paso style. A couple of them seemed a
bit over the top & alcoholic/hot, but, in general, I thought they were good examples of that style. In
particular, the White was absolutely first rate, again in a bigger/riper style. Will buy them again.

You like the Wind Gap wines more than I do. None of them (Chard, Trousseau, Pinot Gris, Syrah and Rhone Blend) have really rung my chimes so far. I hae opned several for my tasting group both blind and un-blind with similarly unimpressive results.

I think they are rather understated wines...which is Pax's intention. They got high marks from me for their interest level
more than anything.

I liked their understated nature. I just didn't find that interest level. I also found a lot of obvious alcohol.

Tom,
Great notes. How did you get your hands on the Bookers?

Tom,
I had this wine in Oakland earlier this year, and similarly found it very appealing. Here's what I wrote about it at the time:
I was eager to try this wine, as I'd heard a lot of good comments about this producer. Jim [Hanlon] averred that he was interested to taste a Trousseau Gris. (Jim, it wasn't until I was researching this post that I realized that this grape is also known as Grey Riesling, which I had many moons ago from Wente). What emerged was a slightly hazy but pale wine with an intese nose of minerals and peaches and a fascinating full-bodied mouthfeel accompanied by a strong herbal streak amid citrus fruit. Wacky and wonderful -- thanks for bringing it, Jim! To the extent that I can recall those Wente Grey Rieslings of my youth, I can say that this wine evoked no memory whatsoever of those Wente wines.

I'm on the Booker mailing list. Alas, for the Fall release, I dawddled a few days & they were all sold out, so missed the 2008's.

Yup, Mark. The Wente GrayRiesling was even more innocuous than the Wente regular Rieslings. Nothing to stir one's excitement. But they were cheap!!
