WTN: Soave (almost) and Bourgogne

by Dale Williams » Wed Sep 15, 2010 11:10 am

Betsy got home from taking Dave to airport, we had a glass of the 2009 Anselmi San Vincenzo (Veneto), my favorite Soave in Veneto clothing. Nice example this year, light with pear and citrus and that pleasant note of almond that so many Italian whites share. Good acids, crisp, quite nice. And a bargain at Posner's $8 closeout price. B/B+

Dinner was a spiced Lola breast from Hudson Valley Duck over green beans and greens, with a wheatberry salad. Dinner wine was the 2007 Rene Bouvier "Le Chapitre" Bourgogne. Light to medium bodied, bright, cherry and raspberry, good acids, a bit short. Low tannins, pleasant Burg without being compelling, but a good match for the duck. B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
