WTN: Woop Woop Shiraz 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Sep 15, 2010 9:19 am

South Eastern Australia

Dark purple in the glass.

Spicy, cherry, smoky, chocolate, vegetal on the nose.

Round and full in the mouth, medium weight, some vegetal notes, black cherries, blackberries, rich, good acidity, juicy, spicy, smoky, red licorice, with some alcohol burn.

Drying, mouthwatering and alcohol burn on the finish.

Not very exciting and the alcohol was a real turn-off.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

I bought Woop Woop Shiraz for a outdoor party with 50 or 60 guests mainly because of the price and quantity I needed; most people loved it.

Considering that I did not know the wine likes/dislikes of most folks at the parrty, I was pleased for the guests. To my taste it was certainly not bad but it is not a wine that I buy regularly. If I recall correctly, and this was not a recent party, it was a little harsh and unbalanced on the acid side; best enjoyed with food.

IITC, my take on a previous vintage of this wine was: Welch's and vodka.
Cheers!
