Sierra Foothills Wine Alliance

by TomHill » Tue Sep 14, 2010 12:21 pm

As per a note from BillEaston/TerraRouge, there has been formed the SierraFoothills Wine Alliance:
SierraFoothillsWineAlliance

with their first event coming up this Sunday in Danville. You all go!!!

This is an area I've followed from the very start (back when KenDeaver Sr was feeding his grapes to his pigs and raising some of the best pork chops I ever done had); not just the ShenandoahVlly, but watched the exciting growth of things-Rhone in ElDorado and, to a lesser extent, Calaveras and Nevada Counties. It's an area that can grow grapes that are as fine as any anywhere in all California...an area that deserves far more respect than it often gets.
I'm delighted that the area is (hopefully) getting their act together and doing some self-promotion.
Hopefully, somebody we'll be giving a report on Sunday's tasting in Danville. Ken/Al??? Somebody??

Thanks Tom. The Sierra Foothills (which is literally in my geographical back yard) is a gem of a wine country. I am not too familiar with wines from Calaveras. Considering the extent of the Sierras, there has got to be significant variations in the wines from along it's length.

Now, wait a minute... What about Scott Harvey's Grandpere vineyard, with documented ownership back to 1869 or something like that? Don't tell me that you're that old, Tom!
