WTN: Frederic Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2007

by Jay Labrador » Fri Sep 10, 2010 5:19 am

Today being a holiday, I took the family to lunch at Elbert's. Not wanting something too heavy to drink, I brought a Frederic Magnier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2007.

On the nose, fragrant wood and berries. Sour cherries, strawberry and a touch of bacon fat on the palate. There's a good acidity that cuts through the fat in food and the sweetness also comes out when taken with food. Finishes rather meaty and quite long. Juicy and charming rather than complex and deep. Although youthful, already very drinkable. I thoroughly enjoyed this wine.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

I've only tried a couple of 2007s, but "drinkable" seems to be the word for the vintage so far.

On the other side of the color spectrum, I've only had a couple of 2007 whites, and both were accessible, too.
