I cooked tonight...

Marie had yoga so I was forced to cook. I did chicken on the grill with vegetables and corn, baguette in the oven. While cooking, and with aperitifs, we had what was left of an '06 Gerd Anselmann Riesling Kabinett, Pfalz. This us unctuous, almost Sauternnes-like. Very nice with broiled shrimp w/polenta. With hummus, before dinner, we had an old stand-by, Jadot's '09 Macon-Village, it's nice to be able to count on a wine to fill a slot. For the main event, I decanted an '04 Bachelet Gevery-Chambertin VV. Had read less than admirable notes on CT, so was concerned (not much experience with '04). This wine was on-point, with rich, deep black fruit, polished tannins, and a long finish. I think a good example of the '04 vintage, and nice wine. Wish I had more.

I appreciate the Bachelet note very much. There's some '4 Bachelet Gevrey Corbeaux lurking in the cellar that I have been thinking about. Your note on the VV has given me the incentive to pull one.

Haven't had the '04, but it is hard to imagine Bachelet going too far wrong in any vintage!
