WTN: Very nice Kamptal Riesling and Muscadet

Schloss Gobelsburg Riesling Kammerner Gaisberg 2008 - Kamptal; 27,10€; 13% abv; 7,2g/l acidity; 5g/l RS
Quite a lovely aroma, pleasantly open already, though young. Strongly mineral, peach stone, ripe but in no way over the top. Powerful, dry, mineral, strong acidity but not in anyway harsh or painful. An already well formed young wine, but I can only see it improving still. Very nice.

Chéreau-Carré Comte Leloup du Château de Chasseloir Cuvée des Ceps Centenaires 2005 - Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine; 12,5% abv
Nice drop, though not a producer that gets much notice on the interwebz; and pleasantly refreshing despite a hot year. Rich and deep, leesy aromas, pleasantly citric and mineral, no sign of the over-ripeness I saw with the few other Muscadets of this year that I managed to try up here in the north. Fairly racy but doesn't have that lovely grip the '04 had. But it is still a joyful wine and we all received great pleasure from it.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

I am one of the few here that mentions C-C so appreciate your musky note, Otto. I have a TN of that wine somewhere. Think the `04?

Here is Chris Kissick`s note on the `05...>

My note on the `04......>

WTN: `04 Muscadet Comte Leloup de Chasseloir Cuvee des Cepes Centenaires, Chereau-Carre.

2nd time tasted, 100 yr old vines. Good natural cork, 12.5% alc, $22 Cdn, opened half-hour. Typical wire cage for this cuvee. Cellared around 2 yrs I think.

Color. Medium straw, cannot describe as brilliant, more faded perhaps.

Nose. Classic and has the grassyness of the `03. Flinty but less oyster shell. Taken on some spice here, flowery too. As it opens more minerally tones blast out of the glass. Very big nose here.

Palate. No spritz this time around, has some hint of ripe fruit mid-palate. Finish has excellent length, dry, minerals. Shows the signs of the leesy character, acidity is not that bracing. More pink grapefruit than lemon, fellow taster thought " has a riper character than I expected......remember that `03?". Interesting wine, bring on the `05s from this stable.

Food was shrimp in a light garlic butter sauce with lemon.
