Nice Pinot Gris from the Okanagan Valley!

WTN: `07 Pinot Gris Reserve Mission Hill, VQA Okanagan Valley.

Been a while since I opened a PG from the nearby Okanagan so pulled this out of the cellar to celebrate a great bird-watching day in the river valley!

Partial barrel fermentation, sur lie for 3 months. Good natural cork, served well chilled.

Color is a medium straw, crisp clean tangy citrus nose without any tropical fruit nuances..."do not need them" from across the table! Excellent acidity, good weight, not really a keeper but nice all the same. Pear, apple is typical plus nutty hints on finish. So-so mid palate but fills out nicely at the end. Good example of PG from a reliable producer.

That mid-palate might fill out in future vintages with more vine age.

Generally, although the large producers like Mission Hill do make decent wine, the very best are from the small producers, which unfortunately I doubt you'd have access ot.

Blue Mountain and La Frenz do a great job with this varietal. Good to hear Mission Hill is turning out decent plonk, I don't usually taste their wines any more unless someone happens to have a bottle open. Maybe I'll give that one a try.

Thanks for the reply Bill. La Frenz wines are here on allocation to a few stores, the `04 Semillon was great if I remember correctly. `08 Semillon is close to $30 I believe.
Blue Mt is cellar-door is it not. Bob MacDonald is always on about the stripped label wines.
I think Mission Hill is out-performing Gray Monk with some of their whites, but GM does offer a more varied selection I think.
