WTN: Domaine Le Verger Chablis 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:32 am

Alain Geoffroy

Light yellow in the glass.

Light to medium bodied, apple, lemon, lip smacking, quite dry, rich, clean, crisp and refreshing.

Drying, lemon on the mouthwatering finish.

I thought this was ok but I must confess that I have never been excited by Chablis. I guess it simply isn't for me.

Purchased at $18.95 (Canadian).

Are you drinking it alone or with food? It might make a huge difference. Your note makes it sound pretty enjoyable.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

We had it with a chicken stiry fry. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the wine but I an not going to run out and stock up the cellar.

It seems a tad over priced too. Maybe if it were in the $15 range it would be a more frequent buy?

I don't know what your other experiences have been, but in this price range it's really hard to get distinct Chablis. You might get decent Chablis-as-Chardonnay, but to see the glories of Chablis you need to spend more. Perhaps not as much as further down south in the Cote d'Or, but it's not a bargain basement area.
