Chanson Père et Fils Côte de Beaune Villages 2005
Reduced from 17€ to 13€; but I'm still not too keen on it. Some nice Pinosity and some nice rusticity to it, but also a bit of dried fruit character and some slightly unpleasant funk (and I normally like a touch of funk in my Pinot Noir). Surprisingly acidic for the year though the fruit does show some warm year character. It's not bad; it's just a bit awkward. Maybe try again in a couple years? Despite the decrease in price, I won't be bothered.

Graf v. Schönborn Schloss Hallburg Riesling Kabinett trocken 2009
13,90€; 12,5% abv; 6 g/l RS; 6,9 g/l acidity. From the Graf's own holdings at Gaibacher Schlosspark. There really isn't much to say about this wine: there is nothing annoying in it, but neither is there a strong Riesling character! Slight tropical bent to the fruit (must have been a warm year?), some pear-drop aromas. Dry, moderate acidity. This might seem an elegant and understated wine on one's first impression, but now that it's been open two days, I'm starting to think that this just doesn't have much substance at all in it.

Thankfully we did also open one good bottle, a truly outstanding Aligoté from Naudin-Ferrand. Since I recently posted on it (TN here) I won't bother again. But I am starting to feel guilty drinking such a big portion of the only 753 bottles made!
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
