With slightly cooler weather we did a plank-grilled salmon on the grill tonight and to "celebrate" the weekend I decanted a 2006 Monnier Beaune-Montrevenots (1er). It was as advertised, complete, fragrant, round. Wish I had more, though I do have an '05 left. Nice wine and about $30 at Total Wine. Look forward to finishing the wine with a salmon Caesar's tomorrow night.

Nice!

I don't know that producer (or vineyard).

I had tried this winemaker and quite like it

05 Meursault, Les Chevalieres, Dom. Rene Monnier

Everything you wanted for a classy yet sumptuous Meursault with the wine opened up beautifully to reveal intense floral, roast nut, butter, soft mineral, lemon and some stone fruit in the end, the nose is volumptuous and elegant indeed. In the mouth, it has ample fresh and delicate acidity alongside with lemon fruit and subtle creamy butter leading to a long, elegant lemony and mineral finish. Yummy indeed! ***1/2 at Less than $37USD that's a steal! Rivalling the 2 Meursaults drank at Hospice des Beaune !

We finished the '06 Monnier 1er Beaune-Montrevenot with a delicious salmon Caesar's salad. I opened a '07 Latour Pinot Noir (Bourgogne) as a backup for more wine. Surprisingly the Latour showed very nicely. Almost on par with the '06 1er. And I really think that this is a case of the Bourgogne rising to the occasion, rather than the 1er falling apart. Or maybe a little bit of both. Either way, the '07 Latour is showing nicely now (if you had the patience to wait). You've got to over look what a wine cost (I paid $9 for this 18 months ago), but it is drinking like a decent village wine now. Like they say, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth"!
