WTN: Goats Do Roam White 2009

by Bruce Hayes » Fri Aug 13, 2010 8:59 am

WO Western Cape
Fairview/Charles Back

A blend of Viognier (54 per cent), Grenache Blanc (34) and Roussanne.

Rich yellow in the glass.

Creamy, oak, tropical fruit on the nose.

Rather thick and viscous in the mouth, lime, lemon, orange, nectarines, mango, good acidity, creammy, charred, quite sharp bitter citrus peel.

Creamy, toast, very bitter lemon rind on the finish.

Lacking the richness of earlier vintages. Somewhat disapponting.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

So a vintage variation issue then?

I admit that the mere mention of oak in a note on a viognier/grenache blanc blend turns me off anyway, but...

That would be my guess. I also recall that the exact blend changes from year to year.
