Some help requested on Beaucastel

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Aug 12, 2010 9:41 am

The LCBO (the provincial liquor monopoly) is offering Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 for $90 (Canadian).

Am thinking of getting some but am afraid the price may be a bit over-inflated. Did some looking on the Internet and found some places selling this (in US dollars) for $60, some for $90 and others for more than $100. I am confused.

Is the LCBO price fair or at least in the ballpark?

When it only costs $1.99 more in BC, you KNOW it is priced too high in ON!

It is $76 in AB - why not get it there?

That's only $14 difference, so it isn't incredibly cheaper.

Agreed, although if you were buying a case it adds up and more than covers the shipping (you'd want to ship when it is cooler). If you need a contact in AB let me know.

Bruce,

Jsut did a quick search on wine-searcher.com and I think that most places in the US starts at about $80, and the $60's you are referring to are for 375mL's. If that is the case hen I'm thinking that the prices of $90 CDN is in fact pertty good. It is lower than my standard bearers of K&L Winery ($89.99 USD) and JJ Buckley's ($94.99 USD) in SF. Also most of these places will not ship internationally (though JJ Buckleys does state that they do ship internationally). Also, in many states, wines are taxable so in California, a $90 USD bottle is actual much higher, closer to $98 USD. As such, for the difference of a few dollars, even if there is, and all the pain to ship internationally and then to worry about shipping conditions, temperatures, etc, for a $1100 case, I'm not sure it's worth it.
