'96 NStG "Les Porrets", Maison Jadot, Decanted vs. Slow-O

I decanted about 5 oz. into a small 375ml carafe, and left the rest in the bottle. Put both into a small insulated picnic bag with a small gel-filled "freezer block" inside to keep both cool.

Two hours later tried the decanted portion. Nice body, good ripeness, and just a hint of acidity around the edges. Still on the young side, but getting there.

At two and a half hours went on to the undecanted portion, and immediately was actually surprised to find some fine flavor elements that the decanted part did not show at all. This portion is really quite a bit better in character, depth, and balance. As the wine gets a bit less cool the acidity integrates and is not noticeable at all.

Not a "great" NStG perhaps, but an interesting and satisfying one. I remember liking a number of Jadot's '96s, which I recall having good weight and ripeness early on, without excess acidity showing. I think this is the first one that I have opened recently, and hopefully the rest will be as good or better!
