$9.35 at the Colio retail outlet. Fake plastic cork.
12% alc./vol. Gorgeous, saturated black-cherry / sumac colour, lightening only at the edge of the meniscus. Beautiful colour saturation, as is typically the case with Foch. Forward cherry fruit with some lovely brackish / gamey aromas that I absolutely love. Tart and dry on the entry, with a medium body and a wonderful liveliness. Hints of cranberry appear on the nose while I go for another sip. Mouthfilling, invigorating, deep dark red wine. Excellent balance, a decent alcohol level and a short but very enjoyable and tasty finish. No oak in this one - I think it would be better with a dab of American oak, however, just as it used to have in the past under the Harrow Estates label.
As I have written many times over the years, Foch displays better acid / tannin balance than Baco Noir. My preference for our classic red hybrid table wines always gravitates to Foch, given a choice between the two.
This went really well with the tamatiebredie (lamb stewed in tomatoes and spices, served on basmati rice) and a fresh garden salad.
