WTN: Chateau Pesquie Terrasses 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:18 am

AC Côtes du Ventoux

A 70-30 Grenache-Syrah blend.

Chilled before supper.

Deep cherry red in the glass.

Earth, leather, dried flowers on the nose.

Light bodied, spicy, floral, cherry, raspberry, cranberries, drying, tangy, red licorice, peppery, crisp.

Tangy and drying on the finish.

A bit too light and tart for my liking.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

Bruce, I know that it is more fashionable to admire the 2007s but I like the 2008 Southern Rhônes which have come my way for their fine aromatics, fresher acidity and lower alcohol; these qualities were precious in the recent past heatwave. Generally the Côtes du Ventoux are lighter and more acidic than mainstream Rhônes so 2008 may have suited them less well;

Based on Bruce's tastes as I understand them, I suspect that had it not been "drying on the finish" Bruce would have been fine with all the rest even if it were a lighter Pesquie than usual.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
