WTN: '95 Hospices de Beaune Beaune

With arugala/apple/walnut salad and a mushroom barley "risotto", the 1995 Hospices de Beaune (Roux Pere & Fils) "Cuvee Hugues et Louis Betault" Beaune 1er Cru. Crunchy red raspberry, mushroom, cedar, a little vanilla. Light to medium bodied, ok length, some tannins (wood?). Not bad, but I'm wondering how much oak this saw- still some charred/toasted notes, the unintegrated tannins seem a bit much for the fruit structure. Still, pleasant. B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I'm always happy when I succeed in pairing a mushroomy Burgundy with a mushroom risotto. Too bad the wood got in the way.
