'06 Fevre Fourchaume

Rich and full, but more classic Chablis characteristics than some of the '06 1ers I've tried. Great cut and minerality. Green fruit and citrus, nice limestone. '06 hasn't been a favorite year for me in Chablis, but this was very nice.

Something to love about the 06's was how cheap they were in the marketplace for awhile. I have a few 1er Cru's that I got for as little as $15 each, and if they don't have greatness about them they're certainly worth that little.

Did you say you own more Chablis than any other single region, including reds?

Ah, you sent me on assignment to CellarTracker.

From a regional standpoint, I have more Chateauneuf du Pape, with white Burgundy (almost all Chablis with a few Meursault and Corton Charlies thrown in) a close second. Red Bordeaux is the third most common wine in my cellar, followed by Washington reds (that was a surprise to me, but hey, I'm a locavore). Next is Burgundy Rouge, then California. Champers, Port, Loire Valley, and 10 regions of Italy are in there pretty prominently. Additionally, a spattering of wine from another seven regions in France, plus Germany and Austria, Spain, Oregon, Michigan, Canada, Australia, and lastly with one bottle, Uruguay.
It was an eye-opener to see the spread.

Uruguay. A tannat, then? I can understand why it's still in the cellar.... :)

I didn't realize you had so many WA reds. My percentage in that department is fairly high. I buy out of loyalty but rarely actually open them, so my.... uh oh, local emergency. BRB.

Okay, I'm back....

Anyway, so I was saying that the number of WA wines I own is disproportional to what we actually drink. Very good to take to local events with people less Europhilic than we are, though. Faves: Buty, Boudreaux, DeLille and Woodward Canyon. Old QC's too.

But your Chablis collection is impressive. Maybe we need to do White Burg II so that you can exercise a few more of them!

I have a cousin in Uruguay. I'm saving it for when he eventually visits.

My Chablis collection is more impressive for its volume and youth than anything else. They're all from this decade! I've been drinking them young, both out of love, and fear of the pox! It's one of Marybeth's favorite wines and appellations, so I could buy these without having to sneak them into the cellar.

You mean that poor man is going to crawl all the way here and you're going to give him what he travelled 7,000 miles to get away from? Warren!
