2008 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese
Another fantastic Kirschheck; full of silken-textured white cherry and apple fruit accented by talc, floral notes and mineral notes. Very polished and elegant with rapier-like acidity keeping it very precise and light on its feet, finishing long with just a hint of sweetness.

2008 Müller-Catoir Haardter Bürgergarten Riesling Spätlese
Phenomenal stuff. The ripeness and sweetness is in Auslese territory with powerful, explosive fruit ranging from the tropical to bright pear and grapefruit flavours, a stony mineral base underneath and all sorts of wild green tea and other herbal and spicy notes emerging as this airs a little. There's fantastic acidity carrying this and keeping it very well balanced despite its intensity and richness, and a finish that just keeps going. Wow!

I see you often use the word rapier in your tasting notes. Have you ever been involved in fencing?

Did it quite regularly in my first couple of years as an undergrad (uni had a pretty good fencing club).

Aha. Explains why the word is still on the tip of your tongue.

And nice wines. I see you're not lacking access to wines worth drinking.

:) Salil, While your sea urchin might be a good fencer, I doubt that he used a Rapier. The three swords of Fencing are

Foil — a light thrusting weapon
Épée — a heavy thrusting weapon
Sabre — a light cutting and thrusting weapon

And though the Sabre is listed as a light cutting weapon, outside of Fencing, depending on the origin of the Sabre, I would not call it light. Only really the Turkish ones were err...'"light"

Having said that I love the description Rapier like, I understand that perfectly.
