WTN: Domaine Thunevin-Calvet Cuvee Constance 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:58 pm

Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

A blend, I believe, of Grenache and Carignan, although I have also been told that this wine is Grenache based.

Dark red in the glass.

A warming and enveloping nose, with cedar, gentle spices and plummy notes.

Thick in the mouth, leather, earth, floral, raspberry, strong notes of dried fruits, flowers and herbs, good acidity, tobacco, tastes quite mature.

Floral notes on the long finish.

A fascinating and distinctive wine. I can't recall the last time I had a wine this unique.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian) and a very good deal at that price.

Good deal. I like Carignan in Grenache-based wines. It adds some structure & herbal elements that I don't get in straight Grenache.

So Thunevin-Calvet has a Cuvee Constance named after Calvet's Daughter, and Huet has a Cuvee Constance named after their daughter or was that Gaston's wife or,....mother,....(can I get a final on this one??? I've seen all three...seriously :) )

Any other cuvee constance out there....

Would be a neat excuse to collect these wines if your name happened to be Constance!
