Recently opened three slightly contrasting Burgundies, first the '04 Maltroye Santenay La Comme, 1er Cru. This was a decent Burg though I was expecting a little more after a positive (91 pts) tasting note from CT. Nice wine, but I would score more like an 89. Nothing to write home about, but OK for $25. The Marchard de Gramont '07 Chorey-Les-Beaune "Les Beaumonts" is a little better QPR (90 pts), Light and refreshing, pretty color, nice nose and @ $20 might be a better value. Still has some development ahead but enjoyable now. Decent village Burgundy for $20, hard to beat! The Ambroise '05 Bourgogne was the standout wine in this group (91 pts). Don't know if you can still find it, but it is clearly Cote de Nuits and clearly '05 and @ $20, the best buy. Go figure, the Bourgogne shows better than the village or 1er. Just shows how important vintages are in Burgundy.
