2005 Pépière Muscadet “3”
2007 Pépière Muscadet Granite de Clisson
This ‘new’ style of extended-lees aging Muscadet is certainly great fun and I have to imagine/hope it will win over more fans from the general public who love richness in their wines. But thankfully for those who like Mineral Muscadet there is still plenty of snap (crackle and pop).
After drinking these two bottles, the “3” seemed a bit more expressive and friendly (is that the RS) while the Clisson was sterner and more reserved, but also more focused and poised. Either way, it’s hard to imagine someone turning down a glass of these wines and not regretting it.
